Tag

Here's the "rules":

A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs (or you can email them to me, if you do not have a blog) You can replace any question that you dislike, with a new question.

B) Tag 8 different people to do this quiz. (I give you permission to break that rule, because I will not be tagging a single soul!) :)

1. How many songs are on your iPod?
I think there may be a walkman (yeah, a tape player one) in the house, but that's about it. I do have a pretty extensive ITunes account, which I'm rather proud of. :)

2. If you could choose a favorite meal, what would it be?
Let's see...soft shell crabs. Yum, yum, yum. A very close second, if not a tie, would be crab legs (all you can eat, of course! -- They're like potato chips - you can't have just one!)

3. Which magazines do you have subscriptions to?
Family Fun (the BEST!), Better Homes and Gardens, House Beautiful, Newsweek, Family Handyman (don't laugh)

4. What is your favorite scent?
Well now, this is a ridiculous question. How can I pick just one!?!?!?! I suppose one of my favorite scents is the ocean air, just as you are driving over the 9th Street Bridge heading into Ocean City. I also love Dreft. My kiddies are 7 and 5, but I still have a bottle in the house and love to use it every once in a while!

5. If you had a million dollars that you could only spend on yourself, what would you do with it?
Ok - if I HAD to spend it on myself (meaning I couldn't put away for the kids future, couldn't buy something for Hubby, etc) I could come up with a few ideas:
1. I need a new light fixture for the second floor landing.
2. I wouldn't mind paying someone to paint that damn trim molding upstairs.
3. Right before every party we ever throw (oh, yes, there are so many of them) I always realize at the last minute that I don't have an ice bucket. I used to have a lovely ice bucket, but we won't say what happened to it (Hubby broke it). I'd buy myself a new ice bucket.
4. Travel, travel, travel
5. I would like my kitchen cabinets to look like they came right out of the Crate and Barrel catalog, rather than the hodge-podge that they are now. Not the cabinets themselves (I already spent my first million on them) -- I'm talking about the dishware inside.

Looking at this list, I'd have to say I'm a pretty easy person to please. :)

6. What is your theme song/saying/motto/mantra?
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.-- Douglas Adams

7. Do you trust easily?
No, not really. I've been burned a couple of times before.

8. Do you generally think before you act, or act before you think?
I'd like to think that I'm pretty darn good at multi-tasking (thinking and acting simultaneously). I can also walk while chewing gum, read a book while blow-drying my hair, and drive a car while changing my pants. (I used to do that rather often in high school - sorry Mom!! :) )

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Yeah, but why be such a downer?

10. What do you most like about yourself?
Another tough one. After a bit of thought I've come up with this: I'm resourceful. (It probably stems from the fact that I'm kinda cheap as well!!) I HATE to spend money on frivolous things, but if I can find a way to make or create a reasonable substitute, then I'm all for it!! I'm also lucky enough to be able to look at something and figure out exactly how it is made. Whether it be sewing, painting, or woodworking...you can always do it cheaper than it is sold in the fancy-dancy catalogs!! Thankfully Hubby is also pretty handy in the workshop, so very often I simply need to draw up a plan and then send him on his way.

11. Is being tagged fun?

Uuuhhhh, yeah, sure. And guess what - tomorrow I'm going to have all my fingernails ripped off by rusty pliers!!! YIPPEE!!! CAN"T WAIT!!!! :)

12. How do you spend your social networking (Facebook, etc.) time?
I've recently discovered Facebook which is a lot of fun. I also enjoy the whole blog thing, as long as I am reading it and not writing it!! :)

13. What have you been seriously addicted to lately?
Making things. Now that I have a whole 2 hours to myself every afternoon, I find I keep having the urge to dabble in little projects. Now if I could only finish one or two of them...

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
She's the "Best"!! Haha - get it? Best Fri Ends?!
She is the exact person you need to see when you are having a "down" day -- all bubbles and joy!!!!! LOVE HER!

15. What’s the last song that got stuck in your head?

This is sad...Puff the Magic Dragon. Really, I swear. Yeah, I'm a little embarrassed. Yesterday I was looking over the latest Scholastics Book order form and one of the books was Puff the Magic Dragon. It just instantly brought back memories of Miss Resnikoff (my 2nd and 3rd grade teacher) bringing in her guitar and letting us all sing with her. Isn't it crazy how music can trigger such strong memories?

16. What’s your favorite item of clothing?
Ohhh - that's easy...my BATHROBES!!!!!! I wear them all the time (even over my regular clothing.) Dear Hubby just gave me a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret for my birthday, and so I went online to see if anything caught my eye. Sadly, the first thing I looked at were the robes. I'm pretty sure that's not what he had in mind!! :)

17. Do you think Rice Crispies are yummy?
I have to be in the mood for them. I'm not a big cookie/cake eater.

18. What would you do if you saw $100 lying on the ground?
Hmmm...let's see...I suppose I could take care of both the ice bucket and light fixture! Whoohoo, good day!

19. What items could you not go without during the day?
It's funny that Dodi should mention deodorant, because that is exactly what I was thinking when I read the question. It's a bit of an obsession for me. I have it in the bathrooms, in my purse, in my car, in the kitchen drawer. I could go on, but it might start to scare some people. Now please don't think that I have an odor problem, 'cause I don't, but I would certainly not want to be unprepared if the situation ever arose!

20. What should you be doing right now?
Well, I started these answers last night around 1:30 am - so then I should have been in bed. Now I need to go get the kids from school, but I have about 2 minutes left before they start to think that I've forgotten them!!!!

Five First Days

After I posted my last entry I couldn't believe that my little ones are in kindergarten and second grade. Kathryn has already had 5 first days of school!! I find that crazy since she is only 7! (Alright - she'll be 8 in less than 3 months). It made me pull out all the old photo discs and search through them all until I was able to find each of her first day of school photos. Here they are:

2004 - Her first day of 3/4 Preschool

2005 - 4/5 Preschool

2006 - A big Kindergartener!

2007 - Too cool for the first grade! :)

2008 - All grown up

Things To Do

Ok - so the kids are finally back in school and the chaos of summer days are behind me. I've set some goals for myself for this new school year:

1. I WILL finish painting the wood trim and doors on the second floor of the house. The fact the the blue painters tape has been on there for over a year (ok - closer to 2 years) waiting for me to complete the project causes me some worry: -- Since so much time has passed, the painter's tape may be permanently fused to the wall. Depending on how easily (or not-so-easily) it is removed, I may also have to repaint the walls. Ugh.

2. I WILL clean out and organize my craft room! I'll be sure to put out some advance notice of when I'm starting. Please, if you don't hear from me after a few days - send in the rescue units.

3. I WILL redo the office. With the exception of our bedroom/bath/sitting room, the office is the only room that has not been touched since we moved in over 5 years ago. It was also the only room with wallpaper that didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out. But hey - did it really matter that there was wallpaper - I mean, let's face it, I am currently sitting at a desk that my dear husband bought at a garage sale 11 years ago for $2.00!! I hate to break it to him - but even all the way back then - he got taken!

But before I jump into all those very dreadful exciting tasks, I have but one goal: get up to date with this whole blog thing!!! So...I've finally sat down and unloaded all the pictures from my main camera - all 563 of them. There's Phillies pictures, vacation pictures, first day of school pictures and a ton of kid pictures!! I'm just gonna start throwing some in here every day because these are just too cute not to share!!!

Here's Kat's traditional FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL photo. Eeeks - second grade!!! That makes her the a "big kid" in her school hallway!! Oh - the pride she takes in that! :)

And here's Ethan on his first day of Kindergarten. I'm so grateful that he did not feel any of the anxiety that I was feeling. It was a piece of cake for him! He has afternoon Kindergarten, so I get spend the morning with just him which I really enjoy. We are getting a lot of reading done, and he is becoming quite a savvy Uno player!!!

This is Ethan waiting outside of school on his first day of Kindergarten. On either side of him are his two best friends, Hunter and David. We live in 3 houses right in a row, and their mothers are two of my closest friends. They have basically grown up together as brothers. As luck would have it they were all placed in the same Kindergarten class. I know for a fact that we all warned the school, but apparently they didn't take us seriously. Silly, silly school.

Hallmark...Schmallmark

Happy Birthday to you! (chachacha)
Happy Birthday to you! (chachacha)
Happy Birthday, dear Aunt Amy!
Happy Birthday to you!! (chachacha)
(Kat felt the chachacha was necessary in the song!!!) The kids (as well as many of the neighbors driving by) got a big kick out of doing a "driveway-sized" card!! They are now COVERED in chalkdust so I'll be sending them out in the sprinklers shortly! :)

I hope you are having a peaceful, relaxing, perfect birthday!!!! It's a beautiful day to do absolutely NOTHING!!!! Sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy your family, life and loves!!!

I'm sending you a bigger than "driveway-sized" birthday hug and kiss!!! Love you!!!!!!!

Two words: I ROCK!!

Ok - the nursery is DONE!!! For all you visitors who have no idea what I am talking about, I'll do a quick recap: My brother (T) and sister-in-law (Chris) had their 3rd child, Tyler, about 4 months ago. They are moving the 2 girls into a room together and giving Tyler the other room. Obviously it was decorated very pretty...for a girl. Not so good for a boy. I decided, thanks to a very vivid dream I had a while back, to redo the room as a surprise. Thankfully Chris spends long stretches down the shore, so I knew I would have about 2 weeks to get it all done. I got the OK from my brother, who was oh-so-grateful not to have to do it himself. The rest was up to me, my husband (who graciously came over one afternoon and helped me by rolling the walls - that's usually his job at our house - I cut in, he rolls - it's a system that works well for us), and my children (who were bored out of their minds for 2-3 hours everyday for 2 weeks!!!) T and Chris already had the bedding - Penn State. Honestly, I didn't even know they made college bedding for babies, but since T and Chris are both PSU grads, if anyone could find it - they could! :) Anyway - since I knew the theme, I just had to go from there. I went with collegiate strips, and then decided to take the Nittany Lion on a "walk" around the whole room. Then I scavenged through their house for final touches. The results: FANTASTIC!!! She should be home in less than an hour and I CAN'T wait!! Hopefully she likes it, because I'm off the clock!! :)

Gone Fishin'

Well, it's my first blog post!! Bear with me as I try and figure out the whole text/photo layout thing - I'm a newbie here!! :)

Since I'm posting for the first time, I thought it would only be appropriate to share with you another first for the day: We took the kids fishing!! Really, honestly - they are 7 and 5 and they have NEVER been fishing! Much of that might have to do with the fact that I hate to get wet (always a risk factor when fishing), I'm terrified of fish (remind me to tell you stories of me water skiing on the Delaware River back when I was as blind as a bat), and I'm not a huge fan of bugs or worms (both of which are pretty unavoidable). Anyhoo - I suppose the children were pretty tired of casting their Spongebob Fishing Rods in the middle of the backyard, so we figured we might as well give it a try. (Not to mention the fact that trying to entertain the kids for the day at the movies or bowling or miniature golf costs no less than $40.00, but a tub of worms is $2.50 at the 7-11!! :)

On our way we tried to warn the kids that there was a pretty good chance that we would not see any fish. I didn't want to discourage them, but I also didn't want them to be too disappointed if the day was a bust. Oh, how terribly wrong I was!!! My little anglers caught 9 fish!!! Their favorite part, however, was not catching them, but throwing them back in the water and watching them swim away! Actually, I think Ethan's favorite part was digging through the tub of dirt and pulling out the "perfect" worm whenever bait was needed. :)

With the exception of the time that I tried to cast Kathryn's rod and I accidentally let go of it and threw it about 15 feet up river into a mess of weeds and whatnot (sorry Brett!), it was a perfect day. Not only that, but I actually touched both worms and fish today!!! We did, however, have to call it quits when the number of ticks we found outnumbered us. I mean, really, I had already dealt with my dislike of water, fish and worms - it was a bit excessive to ask me to handle bugs as well! :)
